Creating With Purpose

Good digital content is more than something that looks good on a screen. Throughout the DCCS program, I’ve learned that effective content needs to have a purpose, understand its audience, and tell a story.

One of the biggest things I’ve learned is the importance of creating a cohesive media presence. Whether it is a social media account, website, or brand campaign, everything should feel connected. Setting SMART goals has also shown me that a successful strategy isn’t about trying to reach everyone. It’s about creating realistic goals that make sense for the brand and the audience you are trying to reach.

I’ve also learned that research should come before creativity.

When working on a rebrand or redesign, it can be easy to immediately start thinking about colors, fonts, graphics, and new ideas. However, I’ve learned that you first need to understand the brand, its audience, and what already exists. A successful rebrand isn’t always about completely changing the story. It’s about finding a new way to tell that story while still staying true to what the brand represents.

The DCCS program has also taught me to think about myself as a brand.

Building my portfolio has made me realize that the work I create is only part of the process. I also need to communicate who I am, what I can do, and what makes me different. Learning how to market myself has become just as important as learning how to create content for someone else.

For me, that difference comes from my experience as an athlete.

Being an athlete has shaped the way I see sports and storytelling. I know how much work happens behind the scenes that fans never get to see. That is why I want to work in the sports industry telling the stories that deserve to be told.

I want fans to feel like they are more than spectators. I want them to feel like they are part of the team, in the arena, on the field, or experiencing the moment alongside the athletes.

Moving forward, I hope to combine my background in athletics with my skills in digital content creation and strategy to create stories that make people feel connected. Because the best content doesn’t just get someone to stop scrolling.

It makes them feel something.
